Fence laws very from place to place and are normally enforced on the local level. In many places, there are regulations that specify the max allowed height of a fence. For example, most fences can not be taller than six feet. Why is this? Well, the main reason is to keep drivers and pedestrians safe. Drivers need to be able to see side roads at intersections. A tall fence could obscure their vision and cause car crashes. Similarly, a tall fence may obscure their view of a child or pet that is intending on crossing the road. Therefore, abnormally tall fences pose a potential safety concern. Tall fences may also obstruct your neighbors view as well. However, these requirements are normally not imposed unless someone complains to the authorities. Even then, it is often not worth their time to enforce the law.
